ISO 898-2 Mechanical Properties of Fasteners Made of Carbon Steel and Alloy Steel Nuts with Specified Property Classes - Coarse Thread and Fine Pitch Thread

This part of ISO 898 specifies the mechanical and physical properties of coarse thread and fine pitch nuts. Specifies the requirements for threads made of carbon steel and alloy steel when tested in the ambient temperature range of 10 °C to 35 °C.

Nuts that meet the requirements of this part of ISO 898 are considered within this ambient temperature range. It is possible that they do not maintain the specified mechanical and physical properties at elevated or lower levels.

Nuts conforming to the requirements of this part of ISO 898 are used in the applications. It varies between 50 °C and +150 °C. It is the users responsibility to consult an experienced fastener materials specialist.

Information on the selection and application of steels for use at lower and higher temperatures is provided for:

• Made of carbon steel or alloy steel;
• Coarse gear M5 ≤ D ≤ M39 and fine pitch gear M8×1 ≤ D ≤ M39×3;
• Triangular ISO metric thread according to ISO 68-1;
• With diameter/pitch combinations according to ISO 261 and ISO 262;
• With certain classes of features, including burden of proof;
• With different nut styles: thin hazelnut, normal hazelnut and high hazelnut;
• With minimum height m ≥ 0,45 D;
• Minimum outside diameter or width s ≥ 1,45 D between circles;
• It can match bolts, screws and studs with property classes according to ISO 898-1.
