ISO 9046 Building and Civil Engineering Sealants - Adhesion at Constant Temperature - Determination of Cohesion Properties

This standard specifies a method for determining the adhesion/cohesion properties of sealants with predominantly plastic behavior used in buildings and civil engineering works.

Test specimens are prepared in which the sealant to be tested adheres to two parallel surfaces. After subjecting to cycles of compression and extension, test specimens are examined for evidence of loss of adhesion or cohesion.

The substrate materials used for the preparation of test specimens, mortar or anodized aluminum or glass, are defined in ISO 13640. Other substrate materials as agreed by the interested parties may be used.

Sealant and surface should be brought to (23 ± 2)°C. Three test specimens will be prepared for each selected substrate. For each test sample, two substrates and two spacers will be joined and placed on the non-adhesive substrate.

The sealant manufacturer's instructions on whether to use a primer, for example, and mixing, will follow the procedure for multi-component sealants.
