This European standard specifies requirements for the design and manufacture of sliding members and guides that are not structural bearings but are only parts thereof for combination with structural bearings as defined in other parts of this European standard.
Sliding surfaces with a circle diameter surrounding single or multiple PTFE sheets less than 75 mm or greater than 1500 mm, or with effective bearing temperatures of less than -35°C or higher than 48°C, are outside the scope of this European standard.
Sliding elements used as temporary devices during construction, for example during superstructure launching, are also outside the scope of this European standard. This standard also provides specification for curved sliding surfaces that are not part of the separate sliding elements but combined with cylindrical or spherical PTFE bearings according to EN 1337.
All internal forces and moments resulting from movements and frictional resistance shall be taken into account when dimensioning the sliding surfaces. The design values of the action to be considered will be determined according to the basic design criteria given in EN 1337-1.
Where the austenitic steel sheet is attached by full-face joining or continuous fillet welding, no further treatment is required to the backing plate on the back of the austenitic steel sheet, provided that the area occupied by the austenitic steel sheet is free from rust and rust-causing contaminants.
