This part of this European standard describes a test procedure for evaluating the effect of humidity in combination with relatively high temperatures on the relevant physical properties of coated fabrics.
It can be applied to all coated fabrics where long-term resistance to hydrolysis from exposure to hot atmospheres with high moisture content must be evaluated. It is not recommended to evaluate materials immersed in water during use.
Aging refers to all "slow and irreversible" changes in a material's properties resulting from its own instability or from the effects of the environment. This change can affect the chemical makeup of the polymers or additives, the composition or the physical state of the material.
Accelerated aging methods are used since it is practically impossible to obtain experimental results under normal conditions of use.
These methods include simulations that reproduce normal use conditions as closely as possible, but where parameters are adjusted so that aging occurs faster.
