ASTM D3574, "Standard Test Methods for Flexible Cellular Materials - Flooring, Glued and Molded Urethane Foams" is the most frequently used test method for urethane foam and includes several separate test methods to determine the various properties of standard, flexible cellular materials. However, there are many test standards for foam and foam mattresses or other bedding sets.
Density - Determines the weight (mass) of a given foam volume. It is usually reported at lbs / ft3.
Indentation Force Deviation - Evaluation of the foam and the support provided ^ 25% compression, 65% compression, or hardness in others.
Compression Set - Evaluation of the foam thickness recovery after exposure to time and temperature in a compressed state.
Tensile Strength - It measures the tensile breaking strength and elongation of foam samples.
Tear Resistance - Determines the tendency to continue tearing.
Flexibility (Ball Rebound) Test - Measures the rebound height of a steel ball falling on the surface.
Strength and Fatigue Test - Various fatigue tests are used to evaluate the thickness change.
Accelerated Aging Various expedited aging exposures are used to determine the change in material properties.
