LM 82, The Lighting Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) is an approved method for characterizing LED Light Engines and LED Lamps with temperature variations for Electrical and Photometric Properties as a Function of Temperature, SSL light engines and lamps.

While many lighting programs refer to LM-82 procedures, it is not a lighting program with specified conditions and pass/fail criteria.

As the development of LED is increasingly used for more lighting industry categories and general lighting, there is a greater need to determine how various light engines and integrated lamps will work in any luminaire configuration.

With form factors ranging from miniature recessed stalactites to large multi-panel floodplains, the need to understand the photometric performance of these sources and their intended environments has increased in a range of thermal environments that simulate these form factors.

This test method provides photometric performance results (lumen and color) at various ambient temperatures, allowing luminaire manufacturers to evaluate light motors and lamps and determine which luminaire models are best suited for their thermal signature.

By thermally supporting the photometric performance of LED light engines and integrated lamps, the designer can determine which internal specifications must be met for optimum performance, including heatsink characteristics.

The LM 82 test should be performed by accredited lighting laboratories. Because only reports from accredited laboratories are considered valid.
