LV 112 Electrical Cables Test Standard for Motor Vehicles

This LV describes the requirements and tests for single core unshielded low voltage cables for the rated voltage ranges ≤ 60 V and ≤ 600 V. This LV applies to new products only. Cables used in mass production should not be changed. In materials, dimensions, production processes, etc. subsequent changes should be forwarded to the relevant design department, which may require a new release procedure.

Scope of testing beyond this LV and relevant specific testing requirements will be defined and approved by the relevant development department.

The insulation should be free of lumps, cracks, bubbles or foreign body residues and should be possible to remove residue-free and without damaging the core using commercially available wire stripping equipment.

Unless otherwise specified, cables will be delivered in the condition they were normally delivered and three samples of each will be tested. Bright colors will be used, not brown or black.

For tests directly linked to the production process for process quality assurance purposes, samples must be stored for at least 50014 hours in a standard environment according to DIN 23-50/2-16 prior to testing.

If at most 3 out of 1 samples fails the test, the test is repeated with 10 samples and this is documented. In this case, all 10 samples must pass, so if 1 sample fails, the repeated test will fail.
