EN ISO 9073-6 Textiles - Test Methods for Nonwovens - Absorption

ISO 9073-6 Absorption describes methods for evaluating various aspects of the behavior of nonwovens in the presence of liquids. Especially:

EN ISO 9073-6 Textiles - Test Methods for Nonwovens - Absorption

  • Liquid absorption time;
  • Liquid absorption capacity;
  • Liquid wicking rate (capillarity).

It should be noted that these different aspects of absorbency may be related to the various end uses of the tested products. The tests cannot be applied to any fabric containing superabsorbent materials.

The liquid absorption time test measures the time required for a sample strip loosely wrapped in a cylindrical wire basket and dropped from a height of 25 mm to the surface of the liquid to become completely wet. In this method, the liquid can come into contact with all surfaces of the sample.

Cylindrical wire basket, open at one end, height (80 ± 1) mm and diameter (50 ± 1) mm, made of suitable gauge wire to achieve a mass of (3 ± 0,1) g, e.g. 0,5 mm diameter stainless steel wire. The mesh will have approximately 20mm square openings and will be brazed to form a solid construction. Extra solder can be added to adjust the mass, or mass can be adjusted by partially doubling the rings, these extra lengths are distributed symmetrically to maintain the stability of the basket.
