NFPA 1802, design, performance of portable RF voice communication devices (RF devices) and remote speaker microphones (RSMs) for use by emergency service personnel (ESP) within the danger zone during emergency incident operations without compromising compatibility with field emergency communications networks, It will set the operating environment parameters as well as the minimum requirements for testing and certification.

This standard will specify requirements for RF devices and RSMs used by the esp as the primary voice communication link in the danger zone. Certification of RF devices and RSMs separately or as a combination of RF device and RSM will be permitted.

Certified RF devices and RSMs will remain certified when connected to other RSMs certified to this standard. The requirements of other standards will not apply, except where reference is made in this standard.

To ensure the performance and functionality of the RF device or RSM, it will be tested with accessories or enhancements installed or fitted to the RF device or RSM as specified in table 4.3.9.

This standard shall not be construed as addressing all safety concerns, if any, associated with the use of this standard by test facilities.

It is the responsibility of individuals and organizations using this standard to establish safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions before they are used to design, manufacture, and test this standard.
