EN 13892-5 Screed Materials - Determination of Wear Resistance of Screed Material Against Rolling Wheel for Wear Layer

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of EN 13892-5 testing. This European Standard specifies a method for determining the wear resistance to a heavily loaded rolling wheel on molded mortar samples made of cementitious screed and synthetic resin screed material or optionally other screed materials for the wear surface.

EN 13892-5 Screed Materials - Determination of Wear Resistance of Screed Material Against Rolling Wheel for Wear Layer

Concrete slabs covered with screed material are subjected to repeated passes of a heavily loaded rolling wheel. Fixed on a support, the sample moves in two perpendicular directions at different frequencies under a heavily loaded wheel. The movement creates normal and shear stress on the screed material. The shear stress resulting from the torsion effect overlaps at the points where the wheel rotates.

The experimental setup will be equipped with suction nozzles on both sides of the wheel in the direction of movement. The nozzles will be connected to vacuum devices, such as vacuum cleaners. The suction mechanism will have the capacity to continuously remove the abraded material from the sample surface during the test.

The aim of EN 13892-5 is to provide a standardized method for assessing the wear resistance of screed materials frequently used as part of flooring systems. Abrasion resistance testing evaluates how well screed material can withstand abrasion and rolling wheel traffic, which is crucial for applications such as industrial floors, warehouses and other high-traffic areas.

The test involves subjecting the screed material to a rolling wheel with a specified load and evaluating its resistance to wear. Results from this testing can help manufacturers, builders and contractors select appropriate screed materials for specific applications, ensuring they meet required durability and performance standards.

It is important to remember that EN 13892-5 is only one part of a wider set of standards regarding screed materials. Other parts of this series cover various properties such as flexural strength, bond strength and thickness to provide a comprehensive framework for evaluating and specifying screed materials for different construction and flooring purposes.
