EN 13892-7 Screed Materials - Determination of Wear Resistance of Floor Covered Screed Material Against Rolling Wheel

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 13892-7 testing. This European standard specifies a method for determining the resistance to rolling wheel loaded on samples of molded mortar made of cementitious screed, calcium sulfate screed, asphalt screed, magnesite screed, and synthetic resin screed with a floor covering.

EN 13892-7 Screed Materials - Determination of Wear Resistance of Floor Covered Screed Material Against Rolling Wheel

Concrete slabs coated with screed material and a defined polyvinyl chloride flooring are subjected to repeated passes of a loaded rotating wheel. The specimen fixed on a support moves under a loaded wheel in two perpendicular directions at different frequencies.

The movement creates normal and shear stress on the screed material. At the points where the wheel turns, the shear stress caused by a torsional action is superimposed. During testing, the screed material is affected by the tiring effect of repeated passes of the loaded wheel.

The test is repeated with increasing load. Resistance to rolling wheel is taken as the maximum load at which the test can pass without separation between the floor covering and the screed material.

The standard is primarily used to evaluate the performance of screed materials to be used as substrates for floor coverings such as tiles, carpet or other types of flooring. It evaluates how the screed material interacts with these floor coverings and how resistant it is to wear and damage under rolling wheel loads.

Testing typically involves subjecting the screed material and flooring assembly to rotating wheels with specified loads and evaluating the wear resistance and durability of the combined system. This information is crucial for construction professionals, architects and contractors when selecting appropriate screed materials and floor coverings for specific projects, especially in high-traffic areas where wear resistance is an important factor.
