EN 985 Textile Floor Coverings - Wheelchair Test Standard

Three test methods apply:

• Test A: Evaluation of the wear behavior of textile floor coverings under wheelchairs;
• Test B: Evaluation of color change (gloss) of lint-free needled floor coverings;
• Test C: Evaluation of the overall structural integrity of textile floor coverings.

A textile floor covering is subjected to the action of three wheels for a prescribed number of cycles, producing an eccentric rotating motion.

Three wheels are arranged concentrically around the center of the plate at 120 intervals and at a distance of (130 ± 1) mm from the center of the plate. They can rotate freely to follow the rotation of the wheel assembly. The rotation speed of the wheel assembly will be (50 ± 1) rpm.

The stress field produced on the test specimen is determined by the distance between the axes of rotation of the wheelchair assembly and the test platform, as well as the distance of the wheels from the center of the plate.

Examine the tested specimens to observe any delamination or degradation of the structure caused during testing; do not include any damage caused by removing material from the plate.
