IEC 60601-2-2 Medical electrical equipment - Special Requirements for Essential Safety and Essential Performance of High Frequency Surgical Equipment and High Frequency Surgical Accessories

IEC 60601-2-2 applies to the essential safety and essential performance of HF surgical equipment and HF surgical accessories. HF surgical equipment (for example, for microcoagulation or use in dentistry or ophthalmology) with a rated output power not exceeding 50 W is exempt from some of the requirements of this special standard. These exemptions are specified in the relevant requirements.

The purpose of this particular standard is to establish certain essential safety and essential performance requirements for HF surgical equipment and HF surgical accessories.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

• Improvements and additions to defined terms;
• Additional separation of HF surgical equipment and HF surgical accessories requirements;
• A new requirement for adult neutral electrodes to be contact quality monitoring neutral electrodes;
• New requirements for devices with or using high current mode.
