ISO 18250-6 Medical Devices, Connectors for Reservoir Distribution Systems for Healthcare Applications, Part 6: Neural Applications

During the development of the ISO 80369 series of standards for small diameter connectors for liquids and gases in healthcare applications, it became clear that the risk of misconnection is not limited to patient access connectors, but rather connectors used at the reservoir end of systems. It was also a potential high risk for incorrect connection.

Since for many reasons these reservoir connectors do not fully comply with the scope of ISO 80369, it was decided to develop a separate set of standards specifically for these reservoir connectors. The 18250 series takes into account the risks of misconnection between reservoir connectors of different applications, including the current standard IV spike specified in ISO 8536-4 and ISO 1135-4.

Manufacturers are encouraged to include connectors specified in this standard in medical devices, even if a specific device standard does not currently require them. When certain device standards are revised, it is expected that requirements for connectors with the dimensions specified in this standard will be included.
