TS EN 60601-2-29 Electrical Medical Devices - Part 2-29: Special Rules for the Safety of Radiotherapy Simulators

The IEC 60601-2-29 standard prepared by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), an organization affiliated to the International Standards Organization (ISO), is a standard that describes the requirements for the safety and performance of radiotherapy simulator devices. This specific applies to standard radiotherapy simulators. The radiotherapy simulators in question mainly consist of the following parts: a system for generating an x-ray beam simulating the geometry of the radiotherapy radiation beam, a radiography or radioscopy system for producing images of the transmitted x-ray beam, a device for controlling the size and position of the radiation light and defining the intended treatment area. , a mechanical structure and patient support system that physically simulate the geometry and movements of the radiotherapy equipment and support the imaging system.

TS EN 60601-2-29 Electrical Medical Devices - Part 2-29: Special Rules for the Safety of Radiotherapy Simulators

This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute with the following title: TS EN 60601-2-29 Electrical medical devices - Part 2-29: Special rules for the safety of radiotherapy simulators.

Simulation is a process in which radiation treatment areas are defined, filmed and marked on the skin. The simulator device is actually a large-scale computed tomography scanner. With the images obtained, the radiation rays are arranged. Planning is an integral part of the treatment process. A diagnostic scan is not performed with the simulation device, body structure is visualized.

Radiotherapy simulators are used in both stages of irradiation planning. First, to watch the cross-sectional view of the body giving information about beam planning and required field dimensions. The second is to obtain a precise schedule of preset doses to fix the required beam directions and field dimensions.

As with all electrical medical equipment, radiotherapy simulators are also regularly inspected according to international standards in order to ensure safe use, correct performance and prevent malfunction. is required.

Tests in accordance with IEC 60601-2-29 standard are also carried out by our organization within the scope of medical device tests.
