IEC EN 60580 Medical Electrical Equipment - Test for Dose Field Product Meters

This standard specifies the performance and testing of dosing meters for measuring the dosed product or the dosed product ratio to which the patient is exposed during medical radiological examinations.

This standard applies to the following Dose Area Product Meter types:

• Field-Class Dose Field Product Meters normally used for the measurement of Dose Field Products during Medical Radiological Examinations;
• Reference Class Dose Field Product Meters normally used for Calibration of Field Class Dosimeters.

NOTE Reference Class Dose Area Product Meters can be used as Field Class Dose Area Product Meters.

Purpose of this document:

• To determine the requirements for a satisfactory level of performance for Dose Area Product Counters; and
• It is to standardize the methods of determining compliance with this level of performance.

Two performance levels are specified:

• A lower level of performance applied to Field Grade Dose Field Product Counters;
• A higher level of performance applied to Reference Class Dose Area Product Counters.
