This European standard applies to devices powered by an internal power supply and providing a digital temperature display when measuring temperatures.
This European standard does not apply to clinical electric thermometers for continuous measurement and thermometers for measuring skin temperature.
This European standard applies to appliances powered by an electrical power source by the mains or internal power sources. Devices can be equipped to house secondary displays, printing devices, and other auxiliary devices. Metrological requirements for such accessories are not covered by this European standard.
If protective probe covers are recommended or supplied by the manufacturer, the thermometer, together with the probe cover, must comply with the requirements set out in this standard.
The number of required measuring points depends on the measuring range of the device; however, measurements must be made at least every full Celsius of the measuring range. In order to detect the possible effects of hysteresis, measurements of degrees Celsius values will be made at increasing temperatures, and measurements of double-degree Celsius values will be made at decreasing temperature.
