The standard is applicable to the investigation of production spillovers of performance and to the study of variation in performance with age as part of type approval or certification procedures.
It is intended to ensure that the earplug hearing protector samples submitted for subjective attenuation testing according to ISO 4869-1 have species-specific performances.
The method specified in ISO 4869-3 cannot be applied as a basic test for type approval. The performance data obtained by this method is not intended to be quoted as representing a headset attenuation in the real ear or the protection afforded by the headset.
