The test requires using a light blocking particle counter and counting particles on a filter by microscopy.
Ophthalmic solutions should be essentially free of visible particles. Invisible particles found in these solutions can be detected using two approaches.
Stage 1: It uses light dimming to count and size particles.
If the stage 1 test fails, the sample must pass the microscopic procedure (stage 2), which has its limits.
Sampling plans should be based on factors such as product volume, historical count data, count variability between units, and size distribution of particles present.
