Compression testing is a very common test method used to determine the compressive strength or crush resistance of a material and the ability of the material to recover after a certain compressive force is applied and even held for a certain period of time.
Compression tests are used to determine material behavior under a load. The maximum tension that a material can sustain for a period of time (fixed or progressive) under a load is determined.
The compression test is usually done up to a break (rupture) or a limit. When the test is performed for a rupture, rupture detection can be defined depending on the type of material tested. When the test is done up to a limit, a load limit or deviation limit is used.
