The test methods developed by Alstom for railway applications over the years are briefly as follows:

DTRF 150207 C EN Forged Structural Aluminum Parts

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be met for the supply of wrought aluminum alloy parts. This standard is applicable to components that perform structural, impact or traction functions. The parts tested must comply with EN 13981-4 and ASTM B247-20 standards.

All mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional aspects of parts that do not comply with the requirements expressed in the EN 13981-4 standard are rejected.

For forging parts that involve special operations such as cutting or machining, the DTRF 150249 standard applies.

DTRF 150248 C EN Super Galvanized Coating for Carbon Steel Sheet

This standard describes the technical conditions for the supply of thin, medium and wide flat carbon steel sheets coated with zinc + magnesium + aluminum metallic corrosion protection. These conditions must comply with the EN 10346 standard.

This standard does not cover technical delivery conditions for the following products:

  • Cast products such as bars, profiles, steel tubes
  • Products coated with zinc and similar galvanized steel

Any mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties that do not comply with the requirements of this standard will result in rejection of the relevant product.

In case of purchasing parts that involve special processes such as cutting, bending or machining, as well as aesthetic quality acceptance, the DTRF 150249 standard applies. It is not intended to weld and paint these parts later.

DTRF 150203 K EN Aluminum Alloy Castings

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be met for the supply of structural and semi-structural aluminum casting parts with high and medium safety levels. For low security level, DTRF 150206 standard applies.

This standard is based on the EN 1559 standard.

All aluminum castings delivered must also comply with the following main standards:

DTRF 150213 K EN Fasteners Purchasing Specification

This standard describes the technical purchasing conditions to be met for carbon steel and stainless steel screws, nuts, washers and various fasteners. This standard defines additional requirements for receiver location and standards where the standard requires a choice. Any mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties that do not meet the requirements of this standard will result in rejection of the relevant product.

DTRF 150210-1 A EN Fixed Mounting Design – Tightening Loads

The purpose of this standard is to provide designers with minimum and maximum installation preloads during the dimensioning phase. The values ​​in the tables in the standard are given taking into account certain conditions. For example,

  • Screw thread pitch: large thread pitch (standard thread pitch)
  • 965g thread tolerance according to ISO 2-6 standard
  • Tightening with H, HFR, metallic and plastic locking nut: inner diameter according to ISO 273, outer diameter according to ISO 4032

DTRF 150228 C EN Curved Rivets and Bolts Purchasing Specification

This standard describes the technical conditions for the supply of rivets and blind or blind crimp bolts as defined in the DTRF 150218 standard. This standard does not replace European or international standards. It builds on existing standards and supplements them with specific instructions in line with the latest technology in the construction of railway vehicles.

This standard defines additional requirements for receiver location and standards where the standard requires a choice.

DTRF 150221 E1 EN Main Welding Terms

This standard describes parts of the standards for welding problems in order to explain how welding problems are applied.

This standard has been prepared within the framework of the performance system (lean management) process and allows, for example, to provide a common source document to customers within the scope of a tender.

This standard is valid for all areas where welding operations are carried out according to the EN 15085 standard. For areas where the EN 15085 standard is not contractually mandatory, equivalent welding standards in accordance with customer requirements are applied.

This standard is based on the ISO 3834-2 standard and is supported by the requirements of the EN 15085 standard.

DTRF 150202 Q EN Aluminum Alloy Extruded Structural Profile

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be met for the supply of extruded aluminum alloy profiles that contribute to the mechanical resistance of railway vehicles. This standard does not apply to profiles designed for vehicle installation governed by the DTRF 150205 standard.

All delivered parts must comply with EN 13981-1 or ASTM B221-21 standard. If a requirement is not met by ASTM B221, the EN 13981-1 standard should be applied.

This standard defines additional requirements for receiver location and standards where the standard requires a choice.

Any mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties that do not comply with the requirements of this standard will result in rejection of the relevant product.

DTRF 150266-3 A TR Direct Energy Deposition (DED) - Purchasing Metallic Parts

This standard describes the requirements for purchased parts made by direct energy deposition additive manufacturing (including wire arc additive manufacturing, wire laser additive manufacturing). Different features related to additive manufacturing are included in the standard.

This standard is based on the ISO/ATSM 52901 standard. This standard includes requirements for:

  • Qualification of parts based on welding process quality controls
  • Direct purchase of energy accumulation parts
  • Quality management for manufacturers
  • Production of direct energy accumulation parts

DTRF 150209 K EN Mechanical Properties of Materials

This standard describes the mechanical properties of materials and the permissible limits used in the dimensioning of structures and sub-assemblies (castings, forgings and similar). These limits do not replace standards, specifications or other applicable requirements established for a contract. These consist only of a working basis and in most cases are determined together with the customer.

DTRF 150214 L EN Fixed Assemblies Mounting Requirements

This standard provides recommendations for the assembly and inspection of bolted or screwed mechanical and electrical connections. Each project should be formalized through a list of applicable internal standards, with the correct revision of the existing document to be used.

DTRF 150210 P EN Fixed Mounting Design

This standard relates to railway screw or bolt mechanical assemblies for structural or non-structural applications as described below. This standard does not cover electrical components, which is the purpose of the DTRF 150222 standard.

The purpose of this standard is to define the performance class of an assembly as well as the basic rules for design and dimensioning. This standard is not intended to define standards for threaded elements (threaded elements catalogue) or to define purchasing requirements (DTRF 150213).

The internal application of mechanical fastener lists (permitted, prohibited, etc.) contained in this standard is used for new projects through the application of standard element lists (preferred parts list).

These technical solutions are not required to be implemented by suppliers, but are highly recommended for their components.

In the absence of a European standard regulating railway bolted connections and only permitted in the DIN 25201 standard for the project under consideration, it supplements this standard.

DTRF 150216 E1 EN Structural Aluminum Alloy Sheets and Plates

This standard describes the technical requirements that must be met during the supply of aluminum alloy sheets or sheets for the production of railway vehicle structures. These requirements do not apply to interior equipment parts). This standard is based on the EN 13981-2 standard.

All parts delivered must comply with EN 13981-2 or ASTM B209 standards. If a requirement is not met by the ASTM standard, EN 13981-2 applies.

This ALSTOM Standard does not address technical delivery requirements for raw products such as aluminum bars, profiles or tubes.

This standard defines additional requirements for receiver location and standards where the standard requires a choice.

All delivered parts shall comply with the following defined requirements:

  • European standard for European area
  • US standards for the Americas region
  • European or US standard most relevant for other regions

The supplier must officially confirm which standard he will specifically rely on.

DTRF 150232 C1 EN Fasteners and Semi-Structural Composite Parts

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be met for the supply of parts from composite materials for interior (interior cladding) and semi-structural applications (front end, exterior cladding, etc.). This standard does not cover overloaded parts (car body, cushion, bogie, etc.) and electronic cards used in the car structure. This is not a standard purchasing specification but lists key definitions and explains the different processes and requirements involved in developing composite parts.

DTRF 150279 A Corrugated Metal Hoses for Hydrogen Purchasing Specification

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be met for the supply of raw or semi-finished products (cut from standard or special formats) for corrugated metal hoses wrapped in a single layer of braid and applicable to hydrogen.

Any possible deviation from the instructions set out in this standard should be as follows:

DTRF 150237 C1 EN Structural Iron Castings

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be followed in the supply of structural steel casting raw materials. Applies to components performing structural, bogie chassis or traction functions (other functions are not covered). All delivered parts must comply with EN 1559-1 and EN 1559-3 standards.

This standard was developed in accordance with the EN 1559 standard. This standard defines additional requirements for receiver location and standards where the standard requires a choice.

Any possible deviation from the instructions set out in this standard should be as follows:

In case of purchase of cast iron parts including special process cutting or machining, the DTRF 150249 standard applies.

For cast iron designs designed and placed on the market before the date of publication of this standard, previous revisions of the DTRF 150237 standard are applicable. However, the current DTRF 150237 revision is preferred, especially if an agreement has been reached with the contractor on an item-by-item basis.

DTRF 150204 H1 EN Steel Casting Structural Parts

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be followed in the supply of structural steel casting raw materials. Applies to components performing structural, bogie chassis or traction functions (other functions are not covered). All delivered parts must comply with EN 1559-1 and EN 1559-2 standards.

This standard was developed in accordance with the EN 1559 standard. This standard defines additional requirements for receiver location and standards where the standard requires a choice.

Any possible deviation from the instructions set out in this standard should be as follows:

  • It is clearly written in the item-by-item analysis
  • Accepted by the manufacturer and supplier

In case of purchase of cast steel parts including special process cutting or machining, the DTRF 150249 standard applies.

For steel casting designs designed and placed on the market before the date of publication of this standard, previous revisions of the DTRF 150204 standard may be applied. However, the current DTRF 150204 revision is preferred, especially if an agreement has been reached with the contractor on an item basis.

DTRF 150249 E TR Cut, Machined, Bent Primary Metal Parts

In this standard, non-fastener type screws, nuts, etc. It describes the technical conditions that must be met for the supply of metallic parts, including parts, whether for structural application or not. These parts must be cut, machined or bent and made from raw metal blanks. Therefore, these parts are intended to be welded or painted.

To determine whether the part is included in this group, the supplier must contact the manufacturer because this information is not included in the part description drawing.

This standard is an addition to the technical conditions to be met that apply to different raw materials included in other purchasing specifications. The application of this standard in addition to other existing purchasing specifications must be agreed with the supplier and specified in the order.

This standard does not apply to technical conditions for the delivery of welded mechanical products (DTRF 150215 or DTRF 150239 standards) or for the delivery of stainless steel tubes for pneumatic use.

Operations or finishing operations performed on these parts include:

  • Cutting processes: shearing, shearing, drilling or thermal cutting (laser or oxide cutting)
  • Machining operations: all procedures for removing chips
  • Bending processes: cold or hot folding, forming, rolling, stamping
  • Combination of operations: cutting + machining, cutting + bending + machining

DTRF 150262 C EN Washing and Cleaning Agents Specification

This standard describes technical recommendations for washing and cleaning in the context of railway applications. The first part of the standard describes how to achieve a satisfactory cleaning quality in terms of equipment, chemical and physical parameters. The second section contains a list of washing and cleaning agents to be used by the operator or maintenance team to ensure a satisfactory level of cleanliness and protect rolling stock from corrosion.

The technical information contained in this standard is based on observations made on the equipment in operation. An example of a typical washing device is described, which includes automatic train washing for external cleaning and manual operations for internal cleaning.

DTRF 150212 F EN Assemblies and Parts Criticality Management

This standard describes the rules for assigning criticality to parts or welded, riveted, glued or bolted assemblies of rolling stock material. This standard proposes a common working method and criteria for better quality in design, unique criticality assessment and acceleration of decisions for common use cases. In some special cases, deviation is possible with acceptance by the responsible bodies.

Design activities define all dimensional, geometric, physical, functional, appearance and similar characteristics of parts and assemblies. The consequence of failure to comply with one or more of these specifications can range from visual discomfort to loss of equipment.

DTRF 150201 R EN Gauges and Carbon Steel Sheets

This standard describes the technical requirements applicable to the supply of carbon steel sheets and plates. This standard is based on EN 10149, EN 10025 and EN 10028 standards. These products are mandatory for railway welded components or sub-assemblies with certification level CL15085 and CL2 in accordance with the EN 1-2 standard, but they can also be used in other non-mandatory applications.

This standard does not cover technical delivery requirements for raw products such as steel bars, profiles or pipes. In contrast, many possible options listed in the EN 10149, EN 10025 and EN 10028 standards cover the situation.

Requirements for these standards:

  • Its content for some elements has been limited in order to obtain suitable flexural and anti-corrosion properties as well as a low carbon equivalent value selected for vehicle body structures of railway wagons.
  • The copper steels used in the past have been replaced by weather-resistant steels with low sulfur content, which enable a corrosion resistance equivalent to this standard to be achieved.

DTRF 150266-1 D EN Additive Manufacturing - Purchasing Metallic Parts

DTRF 150235 F1 EN Purchasing Specification for Stainless Steel Pipes for Low and High Pressure Applications

This standard describes the technical conditions to be met for the supply of raw or semi-finished products for stainless steel pipes to be used in low pressure (pneumatic, cooling circuit, diesel fuel, etc.) and high pressure (hydraulic, fire extinguishing, etc.) applications.

These pipes are designed to equip transport railway vehicles with fittings or compression fittings complying with the ISO 8434-1 standard.

Products related to this standard are subject to special control of their properties regarding mechanical properties, sealing, mass and visual inspection. Any inconsistency in the instructions regarding the mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties listed in this standard will result in the product being discarded.

DTRF 150218 B EN Riveted or Locked Bolt Mounting Design

This standard describes mechanical assemblies that are riveted or mounted using locking bolts for mechanical applications and riveted electrical assemblies for grounding. The purpose of this standard is to define the concepts of structural, semi-structural and ordinary assembly and the basic rules for their dimensioning.

The internal implementation of the list of fasteners in this standard is carried out through the list of standard elements to be used in new projects (preferred parts list).

These technical solutions are not required to be implemented by suppliers, but are highly recommended.

DTRF 150219 B EN Rivets and Lock Bolts Mounting Requirements

This standard is part of a set of specifications aimed at standardizing riveted mechanical parts as described in the table provided within the standard.

The purpose of this standard is to define the industrialization of structural and semi-structural riveted assemblies, which is defined in the DTRF 150218 standard and is considered a special process. This standard defines industrial requirements that must be controlled to ensure that the performance of riveted assemblies is met on the basis of capability and repeatability.

DTRF 150272 A EN Flexible Hoses Purchasing Specification

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be met for the supply of raw or semi-finished products (cut from standard or special formats) for flexible hoses. Flexible hoses consist of one or two braids of rubber.

This standard describes industrial instructions for roof and subframe mount cabinet installation. Unless otherwise stated in the project drawings or specifications, any mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties that do not meet the requirements of this standard will result in rejection of the relevant product.

DTRF 150260 D EN Sealant and Riveting Assembly for Cells

This standard describes the requirements for gasketed and riveted mechanical parts for cells or metallic frames. The purpose of this standard is to define basic design and industrialization recommendations for sealed structural assemblies on cubicles or metallic frames using break-body structural blind rivets. Any mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties that do not meet the requirements of this specification will result in rejection of the relevant product.

DTRF 150263 C EN Bearing for Electric Rotary Machinery and Transmission

This standard describes all common requirements for roller bearings specific to all rotating machines and mechanical transmissions for railway applications. Namely,

  • Electric rotating machines for railway applications: traction motors, generators, auxiliary motors (motor fan, compressor, motor pump)
  • Mechanical transmission: gearbox, axle, axle box

This standard describes all processes to ensure product quality, including:

  • Bearing selection and verification process (at design stage)
  • Homologation and qualification process (the purpose of this standard is also to determine all requirements regarding quality, purchasing and acceptance)

DTRF 150257 B EN Pipe Crimping and Fittings Installation Requirements

This standard describes the technical requirements that must be met by preferred parts list suppliers to ensure the proper tightness of pipe fittings in rigid and flexible pipes. Other suppliers may also be qualified based on project needs. Preferred off-parts list suppliers are documented in the annex to this standard.

This standard specifies requirements for the following fittings:

  • Preferred parts list compression fittings
  • Preferred parts list shear ring fittings (ISO 8434-1 standard L-series)
  • This standard lists the requirements for ring pre-crimping and assembly of inserts.

The diameters considered in this specification are based on preferred parts list content.

DTRF 150620 B EN Industrialization of Adhesive Mounts

This standard describes the requirements for railway adhesive bonded mechanical assemblies for structural or non-structural applications. This standard aims to provide bond management and best practices.

This standard applies to the installation of sealing joints and joining joints.

This standard applies to all products (component parts or parts in direct interface with the vehicle body) designed and manufactured by suppliers. Design rules for adhesive bonding are included in the DTRF 150223 standard.

DTRF 150233 D EN Stainless Steel Sheets, Sheets and Strips

This standard describes the following technical requirements that must be met for the supply of raw or semi-finished products, i.e. stainless steel sheets, cut in standard or special formats:

  • EN 10088-2 standard, a European standard
  • ASTM A480 and ASTM A666 standards, both US standards

Such materials are applied to passenger railway wagons according to the bill of materials of each project. For European countries these products are mandatory for railway welded components or sub-assemblies with certification level CL15085 and CL2 in accordance with the EN 1-2 standard, but they can also be used in other applications.

In case of purchasing parts that involve special processes such as cutting or machining, the DTRF 150249 standard applies.

DTRF 150270 A EN Roof Mounted Switchgear Assembly

The purpose of this standard is to provide industrial guidance on roof-mounted cabinet installation. Unless otherwise stated in the project drawings or specifications, any mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties that do not meet the requirements of this standard will result in rejection of the relevant product.

DTRF 150217 F EN Metallic Parts Corrosion Resistance Requirements

The anti-corrosion performance required for the unpainted part is specified in the order, purchasing specification, or design documentation based on the salt spray test resistance (neutral salt spray level) requirement. This standard describes these requirements. Treatment surface selection is included in the table given in the standard.

This standard describes test methods to determine the basic characteristics and expected results of products used to protect metal parts against corrosion.

This standard is used to support the approval of recommended corrosion prevention treatments and the selection of protection systems for the surface treatment catalogue. These standard requirements do not relate to paint protected parts specified in the DTRF 150608 standard. Any mechanical, chemical, visual or dimensional properties that do not meet the regulations of this specification will result in rejection of the relevant product.

DTRF 150607 A EN Adhesive Film - Preparation and Assembly

This standard defines the guidelines for the supply and application of adhesive films on railway vehicles, and strengthens the standards and rules for adhesive film suppliers, converters and applicators.

This standard is evaluated simultaneously with the surface protection catalog DTRF 150611 standard. For verification purposes, a technical document explaining the application process (adhesive film application document) must be provided.

This standard applies to the use of decorative films included in the final design of the vehicle. Adhesive films can be used where contractually required for decorative needs or as an alternative to the traditional painting system.

DTRF 150206 D EN Aluminum Alloy Castings For Fittings

This standard describes the technical conditions that must be met for the assembly of aluminum casting parts, as shown in the table given in the standard. Connecting parts are understood as all parts that do not contribute to the strength of the railway vehicle structure or shock and traction components.

This standard was developed in accordance with the EN 1559 standard. This standard defines additional requirements for receiver location and standards where the standard requires a choice.
