EN 16272-2 Railway Applications - Laboratory Airborne Sound Insulation Under Common Sound Field Conditions

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of EN 16272-2 testing. This European Standard specifies the laboratory method for measuring the airborne sound insulation of noise barriers.

EN 16272-2 Railway Applications - Laboratory Airborne Sound Insulation Under Common Sound Field Conditions

It covers the evaluation of the internal airborne sound insulation performance of noise barriers designed for railways and related devices affecting airborne sound propagation, which can be reasonably installed within the test facility described in the EN ISO 10140 series.

All noise-reducing devices other than noise barriers and related devices affecting airborne sound propagation, e.g. devices for reducing ground-borne vibration and devices on board, are outside the scope of this European Standard.

Noise barriers installed along railways must provide sufficient sound insulation so that the sound transmitted directly through the device is not significant compared to the sound refracted overhead. This European Standard specifies a test method for evaluating the airborne sound insulation performance of noise barriers and related devices affecting airborne sound propagation designed for certain railway applications in the reverberant area.

It does not deal with the on-site determination of sound insulation performance or the acoustic efficiency (insertion loss) at receiver locations, which also depends on factors unrelated to the product itself; dimensions of the barrier and the quality of the installation work and site geometry, ground impedance, meteorological effects, etc. field factors such as. The test is designed to allow measurement of the internal airborne sound insulation performance of the device under test. The resulting rating will aid in the selection of devices for specific railway applications in the reverberation field.

The measurement results of this method for airborne sound insulation are comparable but not identical to the results of the EN 16272-6 method; This is mainly because the current method assumes a diffuse sound field, while the EN 16272-6 method uses a directional sound field. Research studies show that there is a very good correlation between data measured according to the method described in the current standard and data measured according to the method described in EN 16272-6.
