This standard specifies the basic dimensional characteristics of S-, G-, D- and DV-oil-controlled piston ring types. The normal range for the axial width of the oil control rings (including 2,5 to 8 mm) is divided into increments of 0,5 or 1,0 mm. It is applicable to oil control rings for reciprocating internal combustion reciprocating engines up to and including 200 mm diameter, and can also be used for piston rings of compressors operating under similar conditions.
This standard is one of a series of International Standards dealing with piston rings for reciprocating internal combustion engines. Others are EN ISO 6621-1, EN ISO 6621-3, EN ISO 6621-4, EN ISO 6621-5, EN ISO 6622, EN ISO 6623, EN ISO 6624, EN ISO 6625, EN ISO 6626 and EN ISO 6627 .
The common specifications and size tables presented in this International standard create a wide range of variables, and the designer will consider the conditions under which it will be required to operate when selecting a particular ring type. It is also important that the designer consults the EN ISO 6621-3 and EN ISO 6621-4 specifications and requirements before finalizing their selection.
Material strength is also generally related to modulus, that is, the higher the modulus, the higher the strength, although there are exceptions depending on the manufacturing method. Material hardness is determined by both chemical composition and heat treatment; this is clarified by dividing classes into subclasses. Therefore, the final material and subgrade selection will be agreed between the manufacturer and the customer.
