In all cases, component type specimens are assembled as specified in the relevant specification. Where these details are not specified, a number of standardized mounting methods are given in this standard.
Equipment type specimens should be mounted with normal attachment means unless otherwise specified in the relevant specification. First, an attempt is made to categorize samples by component or equipment type and then proceed with testing accordingly. If this is not possible, for example for packaged products, this standard may still apply, but it concerns packaging, not content. It should be noted that this standard does not apply to empty packaging testing.
The relevant specification will specify whether the effect of the gravitational force is significant. If so, the specimen should be mounted so that the force of gravity acts in the same direction as in use. Where the influence of the gravitational force is not significant, the sample can be mounted in any position.
