The precautions and requirements set out in this European Standard are aimed at protecting passengers and personnel in railway vehicles in the event of a fire on board by warning staff and passengers of fire, delaying fire development and controlling smoke movement.
It is not within the scope of this European Standard to describe measures that ensure the protection of rolling stock in the event of a fire.
This section applies to rolling stock as defined in EN 45545-1.
