EN 50518 Monitoring and Alarm Center

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 50518 testing. This standard specifies the minimum requirements for monitoring, receiving and processing of alarm messages generated by alarm systems included as part of a total fire, safety and security solution.

EN 50518 Monitoring and Alarm Center

For the purpose of this standard, the term "alarm" is used broadly to include fault, status, and other messages received from one or more security and security alarm systems, such as, but not limited to, fire detection and fire. alarm systems, fixed fire extinguishing systems, burglar alarm systems, access control systems, video surveillance systems, social alarm systems and combinations of these systems.

This standard gives requirements for two categories of ARC, category I and category II. Category I ARC will be designed, built and operated to a higher standard than category II ARC in terms of structure, safety and integrity.

Category I: ARCs that process messages from security applications:

  • I&HASs;
  • access control systems;
  • VSS (eg loss prevention) in security applications requiring immediate response;
  • People tracking, lone workers and object tracking systems for security applications;
  • alarm messages processed by Category II ARCs;
  • Combinations of the above systems.

Category II: ARC's handling of messages from non-security applications:

  • fire alarm systems;
  • Fixed fire extinguishing systems;
  • Social alarm systems;
  • Audio/video door entry systems;
  • VSS in non-security applications (eg traffic flow);
  • People tracking, lone workers and object tracking systems for non-security applications;
  • Removes emergency systems;
  • Combinations of the above systems.

The requirements apply for the ARC to monitor and process alarms generated by systems installed at other locations (whether installed at a single site or multiple sites), as well as for the ARC to monitor only alarms from systems at its site.

The standard contains functional and specific requirements that support the services of an ARC.

The standard does NOT apply to:

  • alarm systems used for civilian purposes;
  • Alarm systems for medical or healthcare applications.
