EN 16272-3-1 Railway Applications - Normalized Railway Noise Spectrum and Single Number Ratings for Common Area Applications

All noise-reducing devices other than noise barriers and related devices affecting airborne sound propagation (e.g. devices for reducing ground-borne vibration and on-board devices) are outside the scope of this European Standard.

Since noise barriers and related devices that affect airborne sound propagation in a diffuse sound field have two main intrinsic acoustic properties, sound absorption and airborne sound insulation are frequency dependent; and there is a need to define a reference railway noise spectrum for testing purposes.

This European Standard defines the essential characteristics of railway noise measured on the railway track side in terms of the characteristic normalized railway noise spectrum necessary to evaluate odd-numbered ratings of noise barriers and related devices acting on airborne sound propagation in echo conditions.
