For the evaluation of control valve capacity, the test should follow the procedures given in IEC EN 60534-2-3. These tests provide the necessary information for the determination of flow coefficients and related factors for both compressible and incompressible liquids, allowing prediction of gas, vapor or liquid flow rates under established conditions.
Minimum requirements for production test routines are given in IEC EN 60534-4, which also defines a basis for inspection of control valves at a manufacturer's facilities. Additional requirements will be subject to normal negotiation depending on the severity of the hazards expected, the service task involved, and the design of the control valve to be used.
Determination of the required control valve size for a given flow rate under certain pressure and temperature conditions should be made in accordance with IEC EN 60534-2-1. Estimation of the flow rate achievable under specified pressure and temperature conditions for a given size and style of control valve should be made by the relevant procedures in this standard.
The sound pressure level to be expected at a point adjacent to a single control valve when operating under certain pressure and temperature conditions will be determined using the procedure given in IEC EN 60534-8-3 for compressible fluids and IEC EN 60534-8-4 for compressible fluids.
