IEC EN 60534-8-2 Industrial Process Control Valves - Noise Issues Test

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60534-8-2 testing. IEC EN 60534-8-2 includes the method for measuring the sound pressure level resulting from the flow of fluid through a control valve and the method for determining the characteristic increase in noise due to the initiation of cavitation.

It also describes the equipment, methods and procedures for laboratory measurement of airborne sound necessary to determine these properties.

Two methods are provided to test the noise generating characteristics of control valves. The first is a uniform method for measuring noise radiated from the valve and associated test pipes, including constraints of constant flow through which the test liquid (water) passes. The second is a procedure for measuring sound pressure levels in piping systems upstream and downstream of the valve under constant operating conditions.

There is no limitation on the maximum length of the upstream and downstream pipes connected to the test sample. Non-insulated pipe will be used. The downstream or upstream pipe exposed in the acoustic environment will have a flat one-piece construction, meaning there will be no flanges, peripheral joints or other pipe wall reinforcements.

The test environment should be controlled so that background, reflected and other external noises are at least 10 dB lower than that emitted by the test section. Depending on the test system and acoustic environment, up and down attenuators may be required.

The sound level sensor should be located at a distance of 1 m from the nearest pipe surface, level with the centerline of the pipe. The downstream distance should be six nominal pipe diameters from the test sample outlet, but not less than 1 m. The direction of the microphone relative to the piping must comply with the microphone manufacturer's requirements.
