Specifies the maximum A-weighted sound power levels for factory acceptance testing of rotary electrical machinery with cooling methods according to IEC 60034-1 and degrees of protection according to IEC 60034-6, according to IEC 60034-5.

The purpose of this standard is to determine the maximum A-weighted sound power levels, in decibels, dB, and specify the method for airborne noise emitted by rotating electrical machinery of standard design as a function of power, speed and load.

Suitable measurement and test conditions for determining the sound power level of machines to provide a standardized assessment of machine noise up to specified maximum sound power levels. This standard does not provide correction for the presence of tonal features.

This standard recognizes the economic reason for the availability of machines with standard noise levels for use in non-critical areas or with additional means of noise reduction.
