ISO 527 Tensile Tests of Plastics

EUROLAB Laboratory provides EN ISO 527 series tensile testing services accredited, it covers the determination of the tensile properties of unreinforced and reinforced plastics in the form of standard dumbbell-shaped test specimens when tested under defined conditions of pretreatment, temperature, humidity and test machine speed.

ISO 527 Tensile Tests of Plastics

In the case of isotropic materials, it is recommended to test at least five samples per sample. For anisotropic materials, it is recommended to test five samples parallel to the major axis of anisotropy and five samples with normal. Tensile properties may vary with sample preparation and testing speed and environment. Consequently, these factors need to be carefully controlled where precise comparative results are desired.

This test method is designed to generate tensile property data for the control and specification of plastic materials. These data are also useful for qualitative characterization and research and development. For many materials, there may be a specification that requires this method to be used, but there may be some procedural changes that take precedence over the specification.

ISO 527-1
Plastics - Determination of tensile properties - Part 1: General principles.
This standard specifies general principles for determining the tensile properties of plastics and plastic composites under defined conditions. Several different types of test specimens have been defined to suit the different types of materials detailed later in ISO 527.

ISO 527-2
Plastics - Determination of tensile properties - Part 2: Test conditions for molding and extrusion plastics.
This standard covers the test conditions for determining the tensile properties of molding and extrusion plastics based on the general principles given in the ISO 527-1 standard.

ISO 527-3
Plastics - Determination of tensile strength - Part 3: Test conditions for film and sheets.
This standard specifies conditions for determining the tensile properties of plastic films or sheets less than 527 mm thick, based on the general principles given in ISO 1-1. NOTE For layers thicker than 1 mm, reference is made to ISO 527-2 to the user.

ISO 527-4
Plastics - Determination of tensile properties - Part 4: Test conditions for isotropic and orthotropic fiber reinforced plastic composites.
This standard specifies test conditions for the determination of tensile properties of isotropic and orthotropic fiber-reinforced plastic composites within the general principles given in EN ISO 527-1.

ISO 527-5
Plastics - Determination of tensile properties - Part 5: Test conditions for unidirectional fiber reinforced plastic composites.
This standard specifies test conditions for the determination of tensile properties of unidirectional fiber reinforced plastic composites based on the general principles given in EN ISO 527-1.
