EN ISO 6623 specifies the basic dimensional characteristics of scraper rings made of cast iron type N, NM, E and EM, with diameters from 30 mm to 200 mm (inclusive), used in reciprocating internal combustion engines for road vehicles and other vehicles.
The requirements of this standard apply to scraper rings for reciprocating internal combustion piston engines up to and including 200 mm diameter. It can also be used in the segments of compressors operating under similar conditions.

There are many such materials made by different manufacturers using different casting and machining techniques, each suitable for a particular application. The performance of rings made from two different materials can be very close to each other; that is, several material subclasses can satisfy a particular requirement.
Piston rings must be reliably protected against corrosion for a period of at least one year in normal dry storage. The type and properties of the protector will be agreed between the manufacturer and the customer, taking into account the storage life, storage conditions, assembly requirements and all relevant legal regulations.
