This specification covers requirements for six alloy compositions, four inspection classes, four radiographic quality grades, and six mechanical property classes of high-strength aluminum alloy castings.
The manufacturer of die casting parts will supply castings that can be placed and machined to final dimensions (within allowable variations specified in plans or drawings), except where the mold is provided by the buyer.
The manufacturer or supplier, when required in the contract or order, shall provide the buyer with an inspection certificate stating that each lot has been sampled, tested and inspected to this specification and meets the requirements.
Unless otherwise specified, each casting will be marked with the corresponding drawing or part number. Marking shall consist of raised Arabic numerals and capital letters, where applicable, in whole parts. The position of the identification mark shall be as indicated in the relevant drawing. Where no location is specified on the drawing, the drawing/part number shall be placed in a location mutually acceptable to the buyer and manufacturer.
The measured values must comply with the limits of the material standard specified in the drawing. The choice of test method for strength monitoring during mass production is made by the supplier. The use of individually cast test strips is permitted as part of the process characterization reference. In case of doubt, the strength properties of the component (tensile strength/hardness) are decisive. The strength characteristics of the presented master sample provide general characteristic values.
