This specification may be used for alloys other than those specified here provided that temperatures, times and damping are specified. For material specifications specifying proprietary heat treatment or aging applications, all other requirements of AMS 2772 apply.
Castings and Casting Parts are not covered by this specification; Heat treatment of aluminum castings and parts made from these castings is covered by AMS 2771.
When a warehouse, distributor or similar organization converts the raw material to a different consistency, it must be heat treated and tested according to the requirements of this specification. Marking, testing and reporting requirements will also conform to AMS 2772 and the raw material specification.
Prior to solution heat treatment or annealing, parts must be clean and visually free of contaminants such as dirt, metal residues, lubricants and solvent residues. Residues of heating and quenching media must be removed from the parts after any heat treatment step.
