It can also be used as a guide for testing under other R ratios as well as high temperatures where creep deformation effects can be effective.

The test should be performed on a uniaxial traction-compression machine designed for smooth start-up without kickback when passing through zero voltage. The machine must be capable of measuring tension and force while applying the recommended waveform.

It must be axially rigid and well aligned. The complete machine loading system, including the force transducer and grips, must have sufficient lateral stiffness to prevent specimen buckling at extreme compressive stresses.

The force transducer should be designed for tensile-compression fatigue tests and have high axial and lateral stiffness. Its capacity shall be in accordance with the forces applied during the test. The force converter shall conform to ISO 7500-1.

The specified force recorded in the output from a computer in an automated system or the final output recorder in any non-automatic system will be within the specified allowable variation from the actual force. The force transducer capacity will be sufficient to cover the range of dynamic forces measured during a test.
