The BS 4482 standard, developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI), is a British material standard for concrete reinforcement carbon steel bars used for reinforcement application. This standard specifies the requirements for straight, recessed and ribbed steel wire used to reinforce concrete products. This standard contains provisions for two classes based on mechanical properties. Based on the mechanical properties, the principles for two classes are determined: 500 class is for straight, recessed and ribbed wires. The 250 class is given as an option only for straight wires.
Steel wire reinforced concrete is a composite material that uses steel wires and the materials that make up the concrete. Steel wire reinforced concrete, high tensile strength to the structurei provide. These composite materials are produced using fine and thick aggregate, cement, chemical additives or additive, normal concrete components as well as steel wire. The breaking energies of these materials are 100 times higher than normal concrete.
It also has excellent impact resistance properties and is therefore preferred in industrial floors, military structures, concrete roads with heavy traffic, earthquake resistant strategic structures, production of medium-sized prefabricated elements and reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures.
The most important parameters of steel wire reinforced concrete are the content of steel wire. The mechanical properties and breaking parameters of different steel wire reinforced concretes are also different. In this regard, three-point bending and splitting tests are performed and steel wire content is determined in the mechanical and breaking properties of steel wire reinforced concrete.
Both the content and quality of steel wire significantly affect the behavior of steel wire reinforced concrete. These two factors also affect the toughness of concrete.
