It is contained in this standard and does not assume that the material is suitable for a particular piece of equipment. Consequently, an evaluation of the technical data specified in this material standard against the design requirements of this particular item of equipment should be made by the designer or manufacturer of the pressure equipment to verify that the ESRs of the Pressure Equipment Directive are met.

When welding pipes manufactured in accordance with this Part of EN 10216, consideration should be given to the fact that the behavior of the steel during and after welding depends not only on the steel but also on the heat treatment and preparation conditions applied.

The steelmaking process is at the discretion of the manufacturer, except that the open pit (Siemens-Martin) process is not used in combination with a secondary steelmaking or ladle refining process.

The inner and outer surface coating of the pipes will be typical of the manufacturing process and, where applicable, the heat treatment used. Normally the finish and surface condition should be such that any surface defects requiring correction can be identified.

Correction of surface defects only by grinding or machining will be permitted provided that the wall thickness in the area to be corrected is not less than the specified minimum wall thickness thereafter. All the worn areas will blend smoothly into the contour of the tube.
