It also applies to other ropes, unless the relevant International Standard specifically excludes its use or gives another method.
Wire rope should be cut by abrasive wheel, percussion or shearing methods, taking particular care not to distort the position of the wires under permanent service. Cutting methods that fuse the ends of the wire rope shall not be used. Unused pieces of wire rope from wire ropes should be cut without damage. It should be straight and not have any bends.
Permanent service will be bundle for soft wire or rope. Materials used for permanent service must protect the rope laying. If the test piece is to be terminated with molten metal, the service material must be able to withstand the temperature involved in the socketing procedure. Copper and brass wires should not be used in services.
Appropriate metal fittings should be selected. The inner diameter, wall thickness and length of the fittings should ensure that the rope break is effective after testing. The inner and outer walls on both sides of the insert must be chamfered.
This method is applicable for all kinds of core wire ropes. For fiber core wire ropes, the fiber in the pressing section must be extracted and replaced with a conical steel rod of the same diameter before pressing.
