EN 10319-2 Metallic Materials - Tensile Stress Relaxation Test - Part 2: Procedure for Bolted Connection Models

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 10319-2 testing. This part of EN 10319 specifies the test method for determining the stress relaxation of tensioned bolts in bolted joint models subjected to general constant strain and constant temperature conditions throughout the test.

EN 10319-2 Metallic Materials - Tensile Stress Relaxation Test - Part 2: Procedure for Bolted Connection Models

The test consists of stretching a test piece in the form of a bolt in a bolt-on model device to a specified initial elastic strain, subjecting the bolt to this tension for a specified temperature and time, and determining the residual stress in the bolt.

The constant tensile stress and residual stress are obtained from an extension measurement (bolted joint model A) that refers to the total length of the bolt or from strain gauge measurements of the cylindrical length of the bolt (bolted joint model B), all measurements are made.

In the bolt-on version, a cylindrical-length bolt with a threaded end is tensioned by two nuts against a flange. The bolt-on model must exert a force along the axis of the bolt so that accidental bending or twisting of the bolt is minimal. The flange shall have sufficient rigidity.

To compensate for strain changes caused by changes in room temperature, two passive compensating strain gauges must be mounted on a piece of reference material that is the same as the material of the bolted connection pattern in the initial state, and also connected in series. The total configuration of all strain gauges mounted on the bolted connection model and the reference piece must be set up as a half-bridge circuit.

In all cases, the thermocouple connection must maintain good thermal contact with the surface of the bolted connection pattern and be protected from direct radiation from the heating source. The remaining parts of the wires inside the furnace must be thermally shielded and electrically insulated.
