EN 23923-2 Metallic Powders, Determination of Apparent Density, Part 2: Scott Volume Measurement Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 23923-2 standard. Applies to powders that do not flow freely through a 5 mm hole. The oscillating funnel method (section 3) provides better sensitivity, but cannot be used where the powder may change its properties due to the vibration effect applied to the powder during testing. It gives the principle, symbols and designations, apparatus, sampling, procedure, expression of results and test report.

EN 23923-2 Metallic Powders, Determination of Apparent Density, Part 2: Scott Volume Measurement Method

It is the measurement of the mass of a given amount of powder that, in a loose state, fully fills a glass of known volume. The slack state is achieved by cascading the powder in a Scott volume meter over a series of inclined plates while filling the glass.

1 Carefully pour or feed powder into the funnel with a spatula until the glass is completely filled and the powder flows out. 2 If the powder is not free flowing, its passage through the sieve can be assisted by light brushing with a soft brush. Flatten with a straight edge, being careful not to pinch or pull the powder and not disturb or vibrate the glass.
