EN ISO 898-6 Mechanical Properties of Fasteners - Nuts with Specified Resistance Load Values - Fine Pitch Thread

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of EN ISO 898-6 testing. This part of EN IS0 898 specifies the mechanical properties of nuts with specified endurance load values when tested in the ambient temperature range of + 10°C to + 35°C. Mechanical and physical properties will vary with temperature and property class.

EN ISO 898-6 Mechanical Properties of Fasteners - Nuts with Specified Resistance Load Values - Fine Pitch Thread

Products complying with the requirements of this part of EN IS0 898 are evaluated in the ambient temperature range only and may not retain the specified physical properties at higher and lower temperatures.

A significant change in properties may occur at temperatures higher or lower than the ambient temperature range. If fasteners are to be used above or below the ambient temperature range, it is the user's responsibility to ensure that the mechanical and physical properties are suitable for their particular service conditions.

This part of EN IS0 898 applies to nuts:

  • Nominal thread diameters d from 8 mm to 39 mm (fine pitch thread);
  • Made of triangular IS0 thread and with diameters and pitches suitable for IS0 68 and IS0 262 (fine pitch thread);
  • With diameter/pitch combinations in accordance with IS0 261 (fine pitch thread);
  • With 0H thread tolerances in accordance with IS965 1-965 and 2-6;
  • With special mechanical requirements;
  • With widths between flat surfaces as specified in IS0 272;
  • having a nominal height greater than or equal to 0,5d;
  • Made of carbon steel or alloy steel.

For routine inspection, hardness tests should be carried out on a bearing surface of the nut and the hardness should be taken as the average of three values spaced 120° apart. In case of disagreement, hardness tests shall be carried out on a longitudinal section along the axis of the nut and with stresses placed as close as possible to the nominal major diameter of the nut thread.
