EN ISO 17636-2 Non-Destructive Testing of Welds - Radiographic Inspection - Part 2: X and Gamma Ray Techniques with Digital Detectors

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 17636-2 testing. EN ISO 17636-2 specifies the basic techniques of digital radiography to enable satisfactory and reproducible results to be achieved economically. The techniques are based on generally accepted practice and fundamental theory of the subject.

EN ISO 17636-2 Non-Destructive Testing of Welds - Radiographic Inspection - Part 2: X and Gamma Ray Techniques with Digital Detectors

EN ISO 17636-2 applies to digital radiographic inspection of fusion welded joints in metallic materials. It is applied to the joints of sheets and pipes. In addition to its conventional meaning, "pipe" used in this standard also includes other cylindrical bodies such as pipes, penstocks, boiler drums and pressure vessels.

EN ISO 17636-2 specifies requirements for digital radiographic X- and gamma-ray testing by computerized radiography (CR) or digital detector array (DDA) radiography of welded joints of metallic plates and pipes for the detection of defects.

Digital detectors provide a digital gray value (GV) image that can be viewed and evaluated using a computer. EN ISO 17636-2 specifies the recommended procedure for detector selection and radiographic application. The choice of computer, software, monitor, printer and display conditions is important but not the main focus of EN ISO 17636-2. The procedure specified in EN ISO 17636-2 provides the minimum requirements for radiographic application allowing exposure and acquisition of digital radiographs with equivalent sensitivity for detection of defects as film radiography as specified in EN ISO 17636-1.

EN ISO 17636-2 does not specify acceptance levels for any of the indications found in digital radiographs. If the contracting parties apply lower test criteria, it is possible that the quality achieved will be significantly lower than when EN ISO 17636-2 is strictly applied.
