EN ISO 8494 Metallic Materials, Pipe, Flange Test

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 8494 test standard. EN ISO 8494 specifies a method for determining the ability of circular section metallic pipes to undergo plastic deformation during flange formation.

EN ISO 8494 is intended for pipes with an outside diameter of not more than 150 mm and a wall thickness of not more than 10 mm, but the diameter or wall thickness range to which EN ISO 8494 is applicable can be specified more precisely in the table below.

The length of the test piece will be approximately 1,5D. The test piece may be shorter provided that the remaining cylindrical portion of the test piece after flanged is at least 0,5D.

Both ends of the test piece should be in the plane perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. The edges of the tip to be tested can be rounded by filing or bevelled by other methods.

The interpretation of the flange test should be done in accordance with the requirements of the relevant product standard. When these requirements are not specified, the test piece shall be deemed to have passed the test if no cracks are visible without the use of a magnifying glass. Slight cracks on the edges will not be accepted as a reason for rejection.
