EN ISO 8496 Metallic Materials, Pipe, Ring Tensile Test

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 8496 standard. EN ISO 8496 specifies a method for ring tensile testing of pipes to reveal surface and internal defects by subjecting the test piece to strain until fracture occurs.

This test can also be used to evaluate the ductility of pipes. The ring tensile test is applicable to pipes with an outside diameter not exceeding 150 mm and a wall thickness not exceeding 40 mm. The inner diameter shall be greater than 100 mm.

In general, the test should be carried out at ambient temperature within the limits of 10°C to 35°C. The test carried out under controlled conditions shall be carried out at a temperature of 23°C ± 5 °C.

The interpretation of the ring pull test should be done according to the requirements of the relevant product standard. When these requirements are not specified, the test piece should be considered to have passed the test if the expected fracture behavior has been achieved and no other cracks are visible without the use of a magnifying glass.
