Developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the ISO 15835-2 standard describes a test method applied to the connecting arms for the mechanical joints of steel reinforcing rods. This standard applies to various reinforced concrete design standards as well as various standards for steel reinforcing rods. The full name of this standard is as follows: ISO 15835-2 Concrete reinforcing steels - Reinforcing couplings for mechanical joints of rods - Part 2: Test methods.
The test methods covered by the ISO 15835-2 standard are as follows: tensile test, shear test, high speed fatigue test and low speed load test.
Concrete reinforcing steels should be subjected to all tests except fatigue testing. The reinforcing bar should be taken in the same length, even if it is attached to each other. If different diameters are used in one joint, the reinforcing bar must be taken from the smaller rod diameter bar. When calculating the stresses, the nominal cross-sectional area of the reinforcing bar is used. Attachments for adjustable length couplers should be tested in the longest extensions according to the manufacturer's instructions. In addition, the laboratory temperature at which the tests are performed should be between 10 and 30 degrees.
All tests carried out within the scope of ISO 15835-2 standard should be performed on mechanical joints prepared and assembled as prepared for normal use according to the written installation instructions of the company supplying the coupler. The installation instruction must be submitted to the test laboratory. The connector should be positioned almost in the middle of the test piece.
