ISO 5173 specifies a method for performing transverse root, face and side bend tests on test specimens from butt welds, clad butt welds (divided into welds in cladding plates and cladding welds), and pavement without butt welds. The absence of ductility or defects on or near the surface of the test specimen is important to the test result. It also gives the dimensions of the test sample.
ISO 5173 specifies a method for performing longitudinal root and face bending tests to be used in place of transverse bending tests for heterogeneous assemblies when the base materials or filler metals have a significant difference in their physical and mechanical properties with respect to bending.
ISO 5173 applies to metallic materials in all product forms with welded joints made by any fusion arc welding process.
