EN ISO 6507-2 Metallic Materials - Vickers Hardness Testing - Part 2: Standard Test for Verification and Calibration of Test Machines

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 6507-2 testing. EN ISO 6507-2 specifies the verification and calibration method of test machines and diagonal measuring system for determining Vickers hardness according to EN ISO 6507-1.

EN ISO 6507-2 Metallic Materials - Vickers Hardness Testing - Part 2: Standard Test for Verification and Calibration of Test Machines

A direct verification and calibration method is specified for the testing machine, tip and diagonal length measuring system. An indirect verification method using reference blocks is specified for the overall control of the machine.

If a testing machine is also to be used for other hardness testing methods, it must be verified independently for each method. EN ISO 6507-2 also applies to portable hardness testers, but not to hardness testers based on different measurement principles, such as the ultrasonic impedance method.

Before the Vickers hardness tester can be validated, it must be checked to ensure that the machine has been installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Each test force used within the operating range of the test machine should be measured. When the recess position affects the applied force, this should be done in at least three positions of the piston evenly spaced throughout the range of motion during the test.

The testing machine should be verified by testing reference blocks calibrated to EN ISO 6507-3. The blocks should have been calibrated using the same test forces that the machine will use for future testing. When verifying more than one test force, at least two reference blocks from the hardness ranges specified below should be selected for each test force with which the machine will be verified. The set of blocks required to validate the machine for all test forces should be chosen such that at least one reference block from each hardness range is used for the validations.
