When the gauge length is less than 50mm, a temperature sensor should directly measure the temperature at both ends of the parallel length. When the gauge length is greater than or equal to 50 mm, a third temperature sensor should measure near the center of the parallel length.

This number may be reduced if the general arrangement of the cooling device and the test piece is known from experience, where the change in temperature of the test piece does not exceed the specified allowable deviation. However, at least one sensor must directly measure the temperature of the test piece.

If the test piece is in an agitated liquid medium that can be assumed to be homogeneous, temperature measurement can be made at any point in the cooling medium.

If the test is done in liquid nitrogen, no temperature measurement is required. In this case, the absence of a temperature recorder should be recorded in the test report.

All components of the temperature measuring system must be verified and calibrated throughout the operating range at intervals not exceeding 1 year. Errors will be recorded in the verification report. The components of the temperature measurement system should be verified by methods traceable to the international temperature unit.
