ISO 7989-2 specifies requirements for testing zinc or zinc alloy coatings on steel wire and steel wire products of circular or other cross-section, as well as coating mass per unit area, other properties.
If post-galvanized shrinkage is required, it will be specified at the time of request and order or in the appropriate product standard. The same is true for other specialty surfaces such as a wax coating, a polished surface or an extremely smooth surface.
During testing to ISO 7802, the coating must adhere to the steel when subjected to the wrap test conditions for adhesion. It should not crack or split to the extent that the coating strips can be removed by rubbing with bare fingers. Loosening or detachment during testing of small zinc particles resulting from mechanical polishing of the surface of the zinc or zinc alloy coating shall not be considered grounds for rejection.
In the case of zinc or zinc alloy coated wire, the coating mass per unit area shall be determined either by the gravimetric method or by the volumetric method. Second, it offers an acceptable degree of accuracy and has the advantage of being fast. It is therefore the method of choice for routine testing of wire of any size that can be easily attached to measuring equipment. In case of any dispute, the gravimetric method will be used as the reference test method.
The test methods in this standard may not include in detail all the measures necessary to meet the hygiene and safety requirements in the workplace, etc. care should be taken to take all necessary precautions and to implement procedures only by persons who have obtained this standard.
