ISO 9017 specifies the dimensions of the test specimen and procedures for performing fracture tests to obtain information on the types, sizes, and distribution of internal defects such as pores, cracks, lack of fusion, lack of penetration, and solid inclusions.
ISO 9017 applies to metallic materials in all product forms with connections made by any fusion welding process with a thickness greater than or equal to 2 mm.
Break the joint through the weld metal to inspect the fracture surface. Fracture, bending, or tension can be induced by static or dynamic loading. Also, the notch dimensions and temperature can be varied to induce fracture.
Normally the base value is sufficient, but for special applications additional values for notch and test method may be requested.
